Last updated May 25, 2026Mainstay is a private journaling app for dads. Your entries, photos, and videos are yours. We don't read them, sell them, or share them. This policy explains exactly what we collect and why.
What we collect
When you create an account, we collect your email address to identify your account and send you a single launch notification if you've opted in.
When you use the app, we store the journal entries, photos, and video clips you create. This content lives on your device and, if you have cloud backup enabled, on our secure servers. We never access the content of your entries.
We collect basic usage analytics — things like which screens you visit and whether the app crashes — to fix bugs and improve the experience. This data is anonymized and cannot be linked back to you or your entries.
What we don't collect
- We don't read your journal entries.
- We don't share your data with advertisers.
- We don't sell your data to third parties.
- We don't collect information about your kids beyond what you voluntarily enter (first name and date of birth).
- We don't use your content to train AI models.
How we store your data
Your entries are stored locally on your device first. If you enable cloud backup (a Premium feature), your data is encrypted in transit and at rest on our servers. We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest).
We use RevenueCat to process in-app purchases. RevenueCat may collect purchase history and device identifiers to manage your subscription. Their privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Your rights
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete Account. This is permanent and cannot be undone.
You can export all your entries as a PDF at any time (Premium). If you'd like a raw data export or have questions about your data, email us at [email protected].
Children
Mainstay is designed for adult users (parents). The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. The information you enter about your kids (name, date of birth) is used only to personalize your journal prompts and is never shared.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you via the app or by email before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent update.
